In early 2018, the citizens’ Initiative to Save the Forests of Mount Medvednica evolved into Green Squad—a section of the VIDRA veterans’ association—whose activities were no longer exclusively local but rapidly developed into a broad and powerful movement throughout the Republic of Croatia.
In 2026, the VIDRA Association was renamed the Green Squad Association.
For almost eight years, Green Squad has worked intensively and systematically to expose and stop criminal activities involving the organised devastation of Croatian forests and, since 2022, to uncover criminal activities in waste management in the Republic of Croatia.
We have organized three protest marches (to save the forests of Mt. Medvednica, Žumberak Highlands and Mt. Petrova Gora) and dozens of public events, lectures, protests, press conferences and reports of irregularities and lawsuits to the competent institutions, which the Croatian mainstream (controlled) media sporadically reported, while local and alternative media were somewhat bolder.
